Jo Ellen Simon
Jo Ellen Simon international award winning sugar artist and teacher. Winning competitions since 1988 and has accumulated hundreds of trophies, ribbons and medals from England, the ACF, The Pastry Alliance, and cake shows around the US. She has studied under the direction of such notables as Nicholas Lodge, Eleanor Rielander, Maurine Stevenson, Geraldine Kidwell, Elizabeth Parvu, Gloria Griffin, Carol Faxon, Toba Garrett, and many more.
Owner of Simply Elegant Inc. a wholesale bakery for restaurants, country clubs, and caterers, she also designs custom wedding cakes for brides. One of her creations was featured in Elegant Bride Magazine. Her sugar artwork has also been published in Good Housekeeping, American Cake Decorating, Australian Wedding Cakes, Here Comes The Cake, British Cake Decoration magazines as well as numerous newspaper articles and TV appearances. The Food Network has interviewed her 3 times and she was privileged to host the Food Network in her shop for 5 ½ hours in 2004.
Jo Ellen has enjoyed sharing her talent all over the country teaching since 1998. Classes included most anything except buttercream flowers – “I leave that for the Wilton instructors.” Judging cake shows from New York to Denver and Texas as well as doing demos at ICES days of sharing and staying to teach classes are some of her favorite things. Jo Ellen also does demos every year at the ICES conventions. For the 2007 ICES convention she is designing and making the show cake completely by herself, a 4 year labor of love.
