NEW VENUE FOR AUSTIN CAKE SHOW
AUSTIN, Texas – January 15, 2014
“We lost our previous venue through circumstances beyond our control, but were saved at the last minute by ACC staff to whom we are very grateful,” said Jennifer Bartos, Show Director and owner of Make It Sweet. “We are very excited to begin this partnership with ACC and make use of the exceptional space they have provided for this event.”
Kyla Myers, President of Capital Confectioners – the local club that hosts the event – added that the new venue brings new perks such as lots of free parking plus CapMetro buses and even a Metrorail stop. “It’ll be easier than ever for the public to come see the fabulous works of edible art on display and participate in our many events,” Myers said. “It’s even right across the street from the Crowne Plaza, our official hotel where our out-of-town guests, instructors, and celebrity judges all stay.”
Myers also hopes the combination of the mall and cake show brings a lot of new visitors in and more comfortably than ever. “Visitors can make use of the mall’s food court, seating, and the many stores that are still open, making it a great day out for the whole family,” she said.
Bartos emphasized that all of the features from past shows will still happen at the new venue. “We’re still going to have our full cake competition, the live demos and on-site competitions, the kids’ decorating area, the vendors, the raffles, the classes, and everything else that folks have come to love that have made our show one of the biggest in the nation and internationally respected.”
Vendors and instructors will soon receive an updated floor map, but the schedule for classes and events remains unchanged. Registration for the competition and classes, discounted general admission tickets, and a complete schedule of events can be found at http://thattakesthecake.org.
General admission tickets purchased online by February 16, 2014 are $10 per day or $17.50 for a weekend pass. At the door, general admission is $12 per day or $20 for a weekend pass. Children under 12 are free. General admission includes: viewing of cake competition entries, access to specialty vendors, informal demonstrations, special on-site competition, raffle drawings, and the awards ceremony. Classes require separate additional registration.
“That Takes The Cake!” is hosted by Capital Confectioners’ Cake Club, an organization dedicated to sharing, promoting, encouraging, and expanding the appreciation and practice of the arts of cake decorating, confections, and related media. A portion of the proceeds of “That Takes The Cake!” is used to fund scholarships for local culinary students.
